Support your local band! Something I'ld like to endorse. Of course, it's easy for me, since Kontich is the hometown of one of Belgium's finest (and underestimated) poprock outfits, Orange Black. And now, I can add another one to the list: The Go Find. Granted, both are more or less the same, because The Go Find is none other than the "one man band" of Dieter Sermeus, vocalist/guitarist in Orange Black.

But it sounds different enough, though. In fact, parts of this sound were already shining through on Orange Black's latest release Morning Notes (2002). Something that was probably only intensified when Dieter joined Styrofoam's live band. Arne 'Styrofoam' Van Petegem apparently helped out a lot on this album too, and it shouldn't surprise us then that Miami is released through the excellent Morr Music label from Germany (also known for Lali Puna, Ms. John Soda,...)

The album fits nicely in the back catalogue of Morr Music and it is the kind of electronic pop music that can be enjoyed by fans of that label. Everyone who ever bought a record by Pinback, Hood, Giardini di Miró, DNTEL, Postal Service,... should give this one a go as well. But actually, it deserves to be enjoyed by anybody who likes a decent poptune with some melancholy thrown in.

Miami starts off stylishly with two excellent tracks: Over the edge and Summer guests. Both fine examples of Dieter's ability to craft this kind of gentle electronic pop with subtle guitars and melancholic vocals and lyrics. Sky window and The party don't really do it for me (both try to convey another kind of vibe that just doesn't come through clear enough), but the rest of the stuff is well worth your time.

So, go out and support my local band!
